What's this blogging all about?

Well, I've been thinking for a while that I should start a Blog. Ian and I played around with one (Argie Bargie Chickadee) when I was pregnant with Amelia, but that all ended when the little one arrived. Besides Audrey, there weren't any people who really followed it anyhow...

Firstly I must qualify the title. I'm not actually an Obstetrician just yet. The Idle Obstetric Registrar doesn't have quite the same ring to it, and besides, I have just 13 months of training remaining until I become a fully fledged Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Now, that's probably the last time you'll here the word Gynaecology- I'm heading down a purely Obstetrics pathway. Dad, that means I will only deal with matters related to pregnancy. I'm also embarking upon subspecialty training in Materno-Fetal Medicine (MFM) from January next year, so in reality, I have a lot of training ahead of me. Suffice to say that I'm still a Registrar for now but in January 2013 this will no longer be the case!

Who am I besides the above? Well, I'm a mother of an 11 month old, Amelia, and married to a lovely man called Ian. For the time being, I'm an (almost) full time Mum. Once a week I put in a cameo appearance the hospital to do a high risk diabetes in pregnancy clinic. This is one of the highlights of my week- I wear something besides Lululemon tracksuit pants or jeans, put on a bit of makeup, get to be a doctor again as well as catching up with lots of colleagues from my previous stint at the Mercy. My Mum looks after Amelia while I do that. What else do I do with my week? Leroy and Billie, our Lhasa Apso dogs, keeps us busy with at least one walk a day and I also try to swim and do Pilates each week to keep fit. Amelia and I go to Gymbaroo class on Wednesdays and the other days of the week we catch up with friends and their babies and my family. When I write this down, it doesn't sound like much, but somehow, life does feel very busy at the moment! I'm also getting our house ready for our move to Clifton Hill in November. Other hats that I wear include photographer, traveller, foodie and coffee connoisseur.

Being a far too prolific Facebook user, I thought that this may be a more appropriate and fun forum for posting articles, creating debate and rambling about odds and ends. Some of it will be work related, some will be to do with Amelia, I might post about an upcoming holiday or just about life in general.

Well, that's enough for now. Amelia needs a nappy change and a feed before her afternoon nap...

  1. Does this mean that I no longer have to look at Facebook?
